Stargate Atlantis : Sheppard/McKay.
15.000 words + graphics, audio, and video. Utterly engaging. A gorgeous, gorgeous telling of the story of John Sheppard, World War II test fighter pilot and Dr. Roney McKay, airplane engineer. This is well worth more than two read throughs, it’s lovingly detailed throughout and put together so well.

I mentioned the fantastic pacing in my other recced story by Sinistral, No Sleep Til Bedtime, and I’m pretty much going to expand on that theme in this rec. This one is all about the mounting tension and lust, which, if you couldn’t tell by the stories I tend to rec most often, is a huge, huge turn on for me fic-wise. Any author that can make me feel what the character’s feeling pretty much takes the cake and this story is the perfect example of that. Both Jensen and Jared are fanfuckingtastic.

Oh this is quite possibly one of my favorites in the fandom so far. Set immediately before the Paley festival (where Jensen said in an interview that they’d only gotten 3 hours of sleep on the plane down to LA and an 18 hour shoot before that) there’s tired, sleepy hysteria, and insanely smutty sex with so much wanting and lust that the words just melt, and fabulous, fabulous characterization. Everything works and the pacing is fantastic, too.
Sports Night: Casey/Dan.
Told in alternating sections of Dan talking with Abby in therapy and the events he tells her about, the narration in this story is amazingly tight. Unreliable narrators, when done right, are such an effective trick; they’re fallible, we only know what they know when they know it (but sometimes we can guess at more) and the building of plots is even more intense. And Annie is fantastic at all of this in Like Sailing and Home Runs. Her Dan is charming and fallible, sympathetic and stubborn.
Sports Night: Casey/Dan.
This is like, an entire afternoon read, but it goes by so quickly. Some authors fall into pacing traps and narrative potholes and diversions when writing stories this length but Annie is not one of them. Epic and at turns frustrating (because boys are just so dense you know?) and romantic but never, ever sappy. And the fantastic thing about Annie’s stories? Is that they always satisfy. She is the queen of telling not showing and she’s a true Sports Night writer, this isn’t just a story about two guys getting together, it’s a story about best friends and sportswriters and tv shows and so, so much more. Every cast member is fleshed out and full of life, and every pice of action is lived by you and the characters. This is how all fanfiction should be written.

OMG 12,000 words of amnesia fic from one of my favorite Jared/Jensen writers is like heaven on a good day. And this is so, so fabulous. Touching and funny, with a perfect side cast and all these lovely details, all paced incredibly well.

This totally blew me away. Jensen is fabulous as is Chris and Jared. Also, I really feel like the locations are characters too because the whole story just oozes atmosphere. And it had me aching for everyone involved because it’s messy and heartbreaking, and gorgeous all the same.
WB rps: Christian Kane/Jensen Ackles.
My girl Kassie writes like no other. Every story is just riddled with amazing lines that could pretty much only come from her. She world-builds like no other, too. This story is heavy with the south and so atmospheric it fucking kills me. It also has the benefit of being incredibly fucking hot, and brilliantly characterized, as always.
Supernatural: Sam/Dean.
In terms of bulletproof kinks, you know the ones that always, always push every damned button you’ve got, exhibitionist masturbation has to be one of my favorites. May is National Masturbation Month and Sevenfists killed me with the hot in this one.

You’ve probably all read this already but I’m just getting into the fandom so I’m all a-squee over it. Gorgeously written and wonderfully characterized. I love this Jensen. And I love how tentative they are around each other. This is a fantastic story.
Stargate SG-1: Jack/Daniel.
So I’ve been reading Jack/Daniel fic for a while now but the thought of trying to rec it was so overwhelming that I never did. This is officially my first Jack/Daniel rec. It pushed so many buttons for me it’s not even funny. Hell I’m pretty sure it created some of them from scratch. This is so, so smutty and so, so hot. Intense and just — guh. Seriously. Very, very guh.
Stargate Atlantis RPS: Joe/David.
There is no way in hell to describe how hard this story hit me. It’s gorgeous and detailed and painful and hot and so, so complex. Everything about it resonated. Joe’s reluctance and fear and David’s odd willingness and accomidation and god the painful, intense need of it all. This is an amazing story. I know some people are squicked by RPS but god-when it’s this good…

This is not a fluffy story. It is, though, an intense, viscerally real, hopeful, and good story. Synecdochic’s John is not pretty. She takes all of his insincerity and all of his carefully built walls and tears them down piece by brutal gorgeous fascinating piece. I love that with as many writers and as many stories as SGA has there are still so many perspectives that haven’t been explored and so many possibilities that haven’t come to life yet. This story is exactly that for me. It’s original and interesting and completely unique. I love a story that says something fundamental about it’s characters and that builds on canon in such a way that it becomes it’s own canon to the readers, and I think this story does that extremely well.

This is a gorgeously written story set during season 2, mostly involving the events of Trinity through Grace Under Pressure. I love the style of the story and the complexities of John and Rodney’s relationship.

Billed as Pru’s answer to the romantic comedy genre this is a hilariously funny and gloriously heart-wrenching au where Rodney is a college professor and John is a sometimes stripper and Rodney’s physics TA. Pru has a definte knack for comedy and throwing the boys into unbelievable situations. Her characters are both sympathetic and larger than life and I love this story a lot. It’s long and detailed and really, it’d be hard not to fall in love with a John that draws F-14s on student’s papers when he’s happy with their work or with a Rodney whose greatest nemesis is a fellow professor who hates String Theory.

Jenn is one of my favorite cross-fandom writers, she’s practically the reason I started reading SGA fic, the thing that ties her stories together, in addition to the deliciously long length is the emotional impact the characters have. John is just broken here and Rodney is determined to figure him out.

I fucking love this story. In the beginning of Hide and Seek we saw a hint of the fun John and Rodney could get into when playing around with ancient tech. After watching all of the shows to date going back and seeing John actually laughing after he threw Rodney off the balcony is amazing. Cimorene picked up on that thread of fun and the possibility for adventure and ran with it. John and Rodney get to be the fantastically dorky boys they are when they find a personal teleportation device. This story showcases everything I like about the pairing and wraps it up into this fantastic package with spot-on dialogue and interesting Ancient technology and emotionally satisfying relationships and really hot sex.

This was written for the Harlequin challenge at sga_flashfic. It’s nice and lengthy and so, so good. Genius billionaire Rodney McKay kidnaps Major John Sheppard, USAF as revenge for John’s father stealing corporate secrets. There’s hilarity and math and yeah, I just really love this story. A lot.

This is a really cool story. It’s not an AU, but it takes place before the series starts, basically on the idea that John, as a pilot, probably flew a lot of the scientists out to the SGC base and that he and Rodney had met each other before Atlantis. Unique and well plotted and just very, very cool.

A Duet AU where John and Rodney share a body. John’s body, in fact. Which makes the story that much cooler in my estimation. Plus there’s a lot of really amazing sex or possibly not sex I guess it depends when everyone’s in one body.

You know that phrase ‘tripped, fell, and landed on his dick’ (and yes, I’m totally quoting eminem, don’t hate me) this is sort of the fanfic equivalent. It’s fantastically fun and John is adorably clueless. The sort of story you start off thinking is just a lark and ends up working it’s way directly into your heart. This is one of my favorites. Plus? It’s incredibly fucking hot.

Shallot makes everything better. Seriously, if I had to pick one author’s catalogue to take with me on a desert island? It’d definitely be Shallot. Babies! and wacky alien technology! and John and Rodney being dense dense dense! All without a hint of the sarcasm I’ve just summed it up with. Shallot takes the most clichéd sounding plotlines and does amazing things to them. A note: this is, no joke, not mpreg, so don’t let the baby thing scare you off.

I love Julad. This story is the absolute ultimate comfort fic for me. It’s long and perfectly paced and the last line kills me. I could read it non-stop for a month and never get tired of it.
Smallville
So this story got it’s start in the fact that in the Superman comics Lex and Clark have a biological kid (whom Lex created for his own nefarious purposes out of his and Superman’s dna.) Pru decided to write a story set in the Smallville universe where this happens (although Lex isn’t really evil in the story.) This is probably the funniest story in the entire history of the fandom. I don’t even think I could accurately describe it if I tried but it should be read because it’s a fucking classic. Connor is the best thing ever. And Pru continued the story in Visiting Hours which is the continuing saga of Connor and his incredibly melodramatic life. Touching and hilarious and heartwrenching. I really love this universe.
Smallville: Clark/Lex
One of those cliché stories (marraige fic) that turns into so much more because of the authorship. Deliciously long and engaging.
