This is one my favorite stories in the fandom. Oh god, I just love it to death, it’s a college cliché fic that just works, absolutely. Seriously. everyone just go read it now.

224k of road trip, sex, avoidance of reality; it would be impossible for me not to love this story with all my heart.

Smallville: Clark/Lex

This holds the number one position on my all time favorite Clex stories list. It’s an AU: deliciously twisted, and brilliantly characterized.

Looking Glass

sabotage and subversion by calico; 25.209 words

Filed under: 20.000-50.000 words, lotrips, nc-17, omg favorites, slash — theantimodel @ 3:05 pm

Lotrips: combinations of Viggo/Orlando/Elijah/Dom/Billy

Calico writes the hottest sex this side of, well, everything. And she does it with gorgeous writing and intense buildup. This is one of the hottest stories I’ve ever read. Think of it as, like, ad 25.000 word long pwp.

Sabotage and Subversion

natural progression by zarah; 11.911 words

Filed under: 10.000-20.000 words, lotrips, nc-17, omg favorites, slash — theantimodel @ 2:46 pm

Lotrips: Viggo/Orlando

This is one of my all time favorite stories in any fandom. The one I compare all other stories to. Zarah is an amazing, lyrical, visceral writer and this story is just 100% perfect. All of Zarah’s work comes with it’s own tempo, this one is slow and unrushed in all the right places. It’s nothing short of amazing.

Natural Progresion

momenti diversi by zarah; 33.000 words

Harry Potter: Harry/Draco

Okay so I’m probably the last person on earth to read this but I wanted to read it once it was finished and it is now. So if any of you were like me, you should go read it now, and if you weren’t like me, go read it anyways because it’s Harry and Draco in Italy with beautiful descriptions and lots of buildup and good sex. Yum. note: story is linked about halfway down the page.

Harry Potter: Harry/Severus

Oh man, this story is both long and wonderful. Seriously, it’s great, plot-rich with really cool magical theory and curses.

Harry Potter/Popslash: Bill Weasley/JC Chasez.

If the idea of a popslash/harry potter crossover doesn’t grab you, maybe the really good writing and the completely adorable JC will make you more sympathetic. I really love this story. The writing is, as I mentioned, excellent and really funny as well. JC goes on vacation to Egypt and sees a lot more than he’d planned:

A human that JC hadn’t previously noticed spun toward him quickly, obviously startled, the thin piece of wood in his right hand shooting sparks. He muttered several words in quick succession that JC didn’t understand. He was dirt-smudged, decked out in comfortable excavation type clothes, with red hair pulled back into a messy ponytail and an earring that was hot enough to make JC rethink his utter terror of needles. JC held out a hand. “JC Chasez. You an archeology team, or something?”

The human transferred the stick into his sleeve and reached out to shake JC’s hand. “Bill Weasley. Or something.”

The Language of Hieroglyphs

Popslash: JC/David Bowie, JC/Joey.

Take a good look at that pairing. Now ignore every negative thought you might possibly have. I read this story years ago. It was fantastic then and it’s fantastic now. I’ve actually kept thinking about it ever since I first gave it a chance. It’s heartbreaking and fascinating and just wonderfully detailed. Rachel clearly has a whole lot of love for David Bowie, and he’s really one of the main characters in the story. I think the weirdest thing about this series is the fact that it’s one of the only first person stories I’ve ever enjoyed. Rachel, basically, manages to take all of this shit I could never imagine liking and makes me fall in love. Really, give this one a chance, it’s worth it.

Popslash: NSYNC/Backstreet Boys

Oh man. This is like the NSYNC/BSB crossover fic. Um it’s a total cliché fic but in the good way, where the writing is good and sarcastic and it never takes itself too seriously but it’s not really a farce either. The boys of NSYNC make a bet to see who can sleep with a Backstreet Boy first. And if that sentence doesn’t make you want to read it, I’m not sure what I can do to convince you except say that it’s really a very funny and satisfying story.

Popslash: Chris/JC

This story was written for this year’s Don We Now Our Gay Apparel holiday challenge. I really love this story. It’s wonderfully fun, Giddy Geek is really good with humor, and while I tend to be pretty partial to the Justin/JC pairing, there’s something really cool about the JC/Chris pairing. Writers who can mesh their personalities and make it really work get my approval pretty quick. I don’t want to go into too much detail about this because the story is so gripping and I’d hate to spoil it in any way, but the story involves like, the Burmuda Triangle of hurricanes or something. JC throws a hurricane party and time stops and Chris and JC have to deal with it. The concept is really fucking awesome.

the way you know him by beth and kaelie; 193.870 words

Filed under: 100.000+ words, nc-17, omg favorites, popslash, slash — theantimodel @ 2:56 am

Popslash: JC/Justin

This is a long story set over a 12 month period, it’s an AU with wonderfully developed characters. Justin is a junior editor at an independent book publisher in New York and JC is a highly paid CEO. The world, the characters, the descriptions-the entire story is phenomenally detailed and dimensional. This is an amazing story. It’s really well plotted and paced. The sex is hot and the drama is hotter. I think what gets people about this story is the emotional aspect of it, with characters as sympathetic and highly developed as this, it’s impossible not to feel invested in the outcome of the story.

Popslash: Lance-centric, various pairings

Gorgeously written, wonderfully dynamic AU in a universe that closely resembles that of Hellblazer (Constantine). I really don’t think any explanation could do this story justice. It’s gorgeous and deep and intriguing and wonderfully toned with fascinating characterization. Everything you can expect from Synecdochic’s writing.

The OC: Seth/Ryan

This is, perhaps, the story I’ve been waiting for from Zarah. The writing is, as always, deceptively sparse. This girl knows how to pack a punch with every single line she writes. But this story is significantly longer than most of her other work, which pleased me to no end. Another thing I love about her stories: she’s a thorough writer, Z doesn’t ever write a story without completely involving herself in the tiny details of a culture and I got a lot of personal thrills from reading this one not onlly because it’s set on my home turf, the bay area, but also because it was written by someone with a whole lot of love for the place. The OC: Seth/Ryan.

I don’t read much OC slash but when I do I’m always glad I took the chance, especially with a story like this. It’s set in the future, Seth and Ryan are in their mid-20’s and the story is just fantastically beautiful. It’s heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. There are some stories that you read and you can just feel that ache in your stomach because the characters are drawn so well and made so real that it matters to you what happens to them. This is one of those stories.

Ocean’s 11: Danny/Rusty.

Sometimes you read a story that just takes over your brain and becomes absolutely canon for you. This? Is the epitome of those stories. Seriously, Kassie’s is an amazing writer all of the time but this story, these characters were made for her to write. Everyone needs to read this story, no matter how uninterested in the fandom you may be, it’s fucking brilliant.

Firefly: Simon/Jayne

This story broke me. I was in tears by the end. It’s amazing, my favorite story in the fandom by far but utterly, completely heartbreaking in that way where you know what’s going to happen and it’s inevitable but you just know that it should happen that way and that it wouldn’t be right with any other ending. Such a satisfying and emotional read. Jayne is so sympathetic in this and Simon is heartbreakingly rational.

Firefly: Jayne/Simon

This was recced at just the right time for me. I was bored and feeling slightly dissatisfied with current fandoms. If you ever liked Jayne on the Firefly I really recommend reading Firefly fanfic. He’s such a great character, and fanfic lets people explore that a whole lot more.

Constantine: Constantine/Balthazar.

Trudy really captured their voices. This author seems to have a particular talent for taking things that just edge on being clichés and turning them into wonderfully fresh stories with fabulous characterization and great hearts. The story is in 16 parts (completed) all linked on the calendar page I link to.

The Already Crazy Series by Stewardess, 53,187 words

Filed under: 50.000-100.000 words, nc-17, omg favorites, slash, the boondock saints — theantimodel @ 8:11 pm

The Boondock Saints: Connor/Murphy

This is probably my favorite story in the fandom because it’s just, brilliantly written and so fucking awesome, and LONG. I love long stories and this one is just perfect. It’s a series of nine, increasingly long stories that follow Connor and Murphy from the ages of 10 to 18. Stewardess did her research for this, she put in obvious amounts of time into writing a thoroughly believable backstory for the twins. And her voices for them are practically flawless. There’s angst and happiness and she writes about their relationship, how it’s evolved and is evolving, which is one of my favorite aspects of fic in this fandom. The twins have this incredible, intense relationship. They’re this indestructable, unbreakable, insulated unit. They are, in every sense of the word, a pair. And that intensity, that starkly obvious lovedesperationneed for each other is an awesome jumping off point for writers because it’s interesting.

note: this fic is posted friendslocked to a livejournal community. You’ll a) need an lj account and b) have to friend the community to read it. It’s a pain but the story is definitely worth it.
