prizes over discovery by keiko kirin; 85.271 words

Filed under: 50.000-100.000 words, master and commander, nc-17, slash — theantimodel @ 2:13 am

Master and Commander: Aubrey/Maturin

The writing style fits well with the time period and O’Brian’s own style. Plotwise, it’s good, but either in the pacing or the plot itself, something still feels like it’s missing. Over all though, a good read.

Prizes Over Discovery

retrace the stars by marginalia; 533 words

Filed under: 1-2.500 words, master and commander, pg, slash — theantimodel @ 2:08 am

Master and Commander:

A complete gem. It’s short, but the style is effortless.

Retrace the Stars

the butcher’s bill by tiffany rawlins; 2.681 words

Filed under: 2.500-5.000 words, master and commander, r, slash — theantimodel @ 2:05 am

Master and Commander: Aubrey/Maturin

A wonderful look at Jack and Stephen’s dynamic. It’s got such a good atmosphere, and provides great insight into the other side of battle.

The Butcher’s Bill

nesting place by destina; 660 words

Filed under: 1-2.500 words, master and commander, pg, slash — theantimodel @ 2:02 am

Master and Commander: Aubrey/Maturin

Written for the Yuletide Challenge; short but lovely, a nice veiw of Jack when he’s not at sail.

Nesting Place

undertow by cori lanham; 369 words

Filed under: 1-2.500 words, gen, master and commander, pg — theantimodel @ 2:00 am

Master and Commander: Aubrey Maturin centric gen

Another Yultide story, this one is even shorter than Nesting Place, but it’s such a cute glimpse of Jack and Stephen at their most relaxed.

Undertow

misguided bullets by faye dartmouth; 1.119 words

Filed under: 1-2.500 words, gen, master and commander, pg — theantimodel @ 1:58 am

Master and Commander: Aubrey Maturin centric gen

A nice look at what was going on in Jack’s head when Stephen is shot, well written.

Misguided Bullets

the albatross by sun queen; 909 words

Filed under: 1-2.500 words, gen, master and commander, pg — theantimodel @ 1:55 am

Master and Commander: Aubrey Maturin slashy-gen

This is another story that tries to fill in the blanks surrounding Jack’s fight with Stephen and his subsequent shooting in the movie. She also wrote a follow-up story, Blood on the Moon.

The Albatross

none so blind by pun; 1.619 words

Filed under: 1-2.500 words, master and commander, r, slash — theantimodel @ 1:50 am

Master and Commander: Aubrey/Maturin

The M&C universe fascinates me, O’Brien was a really brilliant writer, and very specific in his character’s voices, which is why it’s so hard for fic writers to get it right. But Pun does it masterfully. Her voces were, I thought, spot on and while this is a fairly short story, I thought is was a great take one Jack and Stephen’s dynamic.
