The OC: Seth/Ryan.

A followup to miss deviant’s Seth is 15 and 15, the writing flows effortlessly between the two stories. AU’s as well done as this never fail to reinforce my undying love for fandom.

The OC: Seth/Seth

A very clever time travel AU that I hesitate to shove into the AU box for fear that it will turn people off. This is a cool idea, and it’s somewhat based on a book called The Timetraveler’s Wife.

The OC: Seth/Ryan

This is, perhaps, the story I’ve been waiting for from Zarah. The writing is, as always, deceptively sparse. This girl knows how to pack a punch with every single line she writes. But this story is significantly longer than most of her other work, which pleased me to no end. Another thing I love about her stories: she’s a thorough writer, Z doesn’t ever write a story without completely involving herself in the tiny details of a culture and I got a lot of personal thrills from reading this one not onlly because it’s set on my home turf, the bay area, but also because it was written by someone with a whole lot of love for the place. Awww yeah, teenage boy makeout sessions combined with one of my favorite authors = me reading stories in a new fandom for a show I’d never even seen. Imagine my utter (non)surprise when I liked it.

The OC: Seth/Ryan

Set at near the beginning of the series (aka the only episodes I’ve now seen) this is one way things might have gone. Great Seth perspective, his voice is somewhat tough to get right but this is pitch perfect, cultural references and hyperactivity right and left.

So evidently I have a thing for college fics across any and all fandoms I read. This is an almost-in-college story, but I think it still counts.

More futurefic, this time of the established relationship variety. I’m not usually all that interested in those but this one was particularly good.

I don’t read much OC slash but when I do I’m always glad I took the chance, especially with a story like this. It’s set in the future, Seth and Ryan are in their mid-20’s and the story is just fantastically beautiful. It’s heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. There are some stories that you read and you can just feel that ache in your stomach because the characters are drawn so well and made so real that it matters to you what happens to them. This is one of those stories.

Ocean’s 11: Danny/Rusty.

Sometimes you read a story that just takes over your brain and becomes absolutely canon for you. This? Is the epitome of those stories. Seriously, Kassie’s is an amazing writer all of the time but this story, these characters were made for her to write. Everyone needs to read this story, no matter how uninterested in the fandom you may be, it’s fucking brilliant.

Ocean’s 11: Rusty/Linus.

I love the way this is written. It’s detailed and the characters are strong, but mostly it’s lines like:

He stands with his weight back on his heels, hands quiet in his pockets; like most of the best pickpockets Rusty has known, Linus isn’t a fidgeter.

that really get me. What detail! This is fabulous.

Ocean’s 11: Danny/Rusty.

You know how sometimes you read a story that’s just. Deliciously slow and so unbelievably sexy, like molasses and foreplay and ‘we don’t need to get out of bed today, baby’ and it’s just a slow burn that you never, ever want to end. This is so one of those stories.

Ocean’s 11 Rusty/Linus.

I’ve not read too many stories in this fandom, and the ones I have read have all been of the Danny/Rusty variety so this was a very nice surprise. It’s really fun and the dialogue is great. I think I fell a little bit more in love with Linus, too.

I don’t know what happened, one minute I was reading Ocean’s 11 fic and then all of a sudden I was mainlining this incredibly good, gloriously smutty, long story about two people starring in a movie I’ve never even seen. *headdesk* Suffice it to say that I’m hooked. This story is amazing, you really don’t need to have seen the movie. Ladyjackyl has this outstanding ability to write atmosphere. This whole story oozes with it. The scene settings, the details, the moods, all absolutely amazing.

Firefly: Simon/Jayne

This story broke me. I was in tears by the end. It’s amazing, my favorite story in the fandom by far but utterly, completely heartbreaking in that way where you know what’s going to happen and it’s inevitable but you just know that it should happen that way and that it wouldn’t be right with any other ending. Such a satisfying and emotional read. Jayne is so sympathetic in this and Simon is heartbreakingly rational.

CSI Nick/Greg

Post-Grave Danger this is a really cool bit of Nick characterization.

Nick is actually really good at therapy. He finds it kind of freeing to talk about how he’s feeling, what he’s been dreaming, and he even gets to talk about Greg sometimes, which is a luxury he hadn’t known he would ever want, but there you go.

This story is incredibly good. It’s post Grave Danger and the author handles is beautifully. I love that Fabella writes a Nick that’s not broken, she does an amazing job of showing just exactly how Nick managed to get through that night alive, and the Nick/Greg relationship just works.

A little more in the introspective side than the last one, I like this story because it shows how Nick and Greg work (and don’t work) together, I like that it’s not perfect, and it’s not love at first sight and all that in this story.
